What ice hockey skates would you recommend me to buy?

I need some decent skates that are not too expensive. Also, what are some good brands you would recommend? I've been on the ice for some time and I've always used rental skates. I was wondering if there was a difference when skating with actual hockey skates rather than rental skates? Also, i'm a male.|||@ Carly: I think the CCM U+crazy light is way too expensive lol...

What is exactly your budget? If you want something cheap and decent, I'd recommend the CCM Intruders, the V1.0 or the Custom 01. You can get them for around 50 dollars. I don't personally like Bauer because their skates tend to be made pretty narrow, and I have wide feet. If you like or is used to Bauer though, you might want to check out the Supreme Pro or the Ignite 22, they are light and approximately 70 bucks. Both can be found at your local sports/hockey store or a department store.

The rental skates, to add to what has been said are not always taken care like it should be (sharpening etc), they might have older models that are slightly heavier than normal an as many people have wore them, the padding isn't always protective enough.

When you buy new skates, the padding will fit the shape of your feet (you might need to bake them). As opposed to rental skates that might not be comfortable especially in the insole area if you have flat or deep feet.|||Rental skates are like rental shoes at the bowling alley: Poor quality, Sweated in

by numerous ppl, some of whom may have poor hygiene. Having your own skates

makes an improvement in comfort, performance .. they can be fitted to your feet ..

not someone else's. As for brand / model, see what fits you. Bring the socks or at

least in the same style as what you plan on wearing while skating. Good luck eh !!

Oh and don't be surprised if you fit at least 1 size smaller than your regular shoes.|||Here is what I would do. I would go to your local hockey skate store. I would get a person there who knows what he (or she) is doing and take their advice. Or, I would talk to my coach. I would never, ever take the advice of random people that you have never met or are unlikely to meet on something like that. Just sayin'....|||Bauer X:05's if your not skating much.

I don't know what you mean by rental skates? You mean the skates they rent out for the fake ice in the south? if it's at a actual rink they should be just cheap hockey skates.|||U+Crazy Light CCM :)

What is the difference between men and women's ice hockey shoulder pads?

I am looking into getting ice hockey equipment. My boyfriend is teaching me to play, so I need to get all the required equipment. Is there a difference between men and womens shoulder pads? I got a pair of men's and they seem a little tight around the bust but at my local hockey store all they have is men's.|||Men's pads will work fine, but women's pads have a large chest plate that is molded for a woman's body. If you can only find men's, use them, but make sure you find a model that doesn't easily ride up.|||it depends on your bust size.but yes there is a difference try to find the womens set or you might br sorry.|||That about answers it, its all about the bust, lol. It kind of works, that more than a B cup, should be wearing womens. Especially, if your petite, yet busty.|||if the mens pads are tight around the bust then maybe the women's pads will be better. or you can just get a bigger mens size. i use mens and they work fine.|||Women's pads have less padding in the shoulders because in all women's leagues they are not allowed to check, they are also shaped to a women's body, for finding a pair you should go online, but if you cant get a larger pair of mens to incorporate ur chest|||Boob cups

What weight training excercises are good for hockey?

Im playing high school hockey and i wanna work out for 3 months before my season starts. How many times a week should i go to the gym and also what weight excercises should i do?|||you want to work legs (obviously) such as leg lifts, squats, stationary bike

core- abs, obliques you should know exercises for these

upper body- biceps curls, triceps kickbacks, chest bench, shoulders lifts and flies, wrists curls, back power clean

well you should try to get to the gym at least 3 to 4 times a week i like to workout everyday but that's not always convenient|||i usually workout three times a week and i usually do both upper and lower body the same, but i had my dad build me a russian box for strides. go to www.hockeyshot.com and go to plyometrics machines and scroll down to the russian box and it really helps me.

My older brother told me that you dont have to have a whole bunch of muscle to play hockey you have to get your technics down and you would be fine. So far i am not the strongest on my team and also a girl but i am on of the best on my team cuz i use technics not muscle.|||SQUATS DEADLIFTS BENCHPRESS HANGCLEANS FRONT SQUATS SNATCHES along with any agility excercises such as squats on a stability ball, lunges, or crabwalk jumps. LOTS OF ABS AND LOWER BACK plus running long distance and doing sprints especially sprints, get on the bike as well and do forearm excercies to help with your shooting power, try not to get to bulky you gotta stay flexible and fast|||You're going to want to work on your core and legs. You can do almost any ab and/or leg workout. I suggest doing wall sits and twisting and/or passing a medicine ball.|||You want to work on sprints because hockey is a fast sport. I went to this one hockey camp where we did squats as we walked up hills...backwards.|||really work on ur endurence strength upper body legs

What is latest age to become professional hockey player?

My husban wants to know, what is the latest age a person can train hard to become a professional hockey player?|||No player has ever played in the NHL who started training after the age of 14.

So, if he's younger than 14, he's got a chance.

If he's older than 14, his chances are pretty slim.|||if your good enough any team will take you they don't care how old you are, as long as you can get the job done.|||Tell him not to give up his day job.|||I presume your husband is already playing hockey or has played at a high level in the past because hockey's not a game you can decide to start playing late in life if you want to play at the highest levels.

The oldest rookie in NHL history was Connie Madigan he played for St. Louis in the first of his of 20 NHL games on February 6, 1973, against Vancouver at age 38, making him th oldest rookie ever.

That being said, that was a different era and all athletes these days are bigger, stronger, faster and fitter then in the past so I would say it's more difficult now days for older players.

Now, if he's a good player and his sights aren't set on the NHL, he might have a better chance of playing professional hockey elsewhere.|||Well,, You should start in your early twenties. End: Never.

To good of a game to quit playing.|||Considering "professional" means any player that is PAID to play hockey, he has a good chance to get in a league if the talent level is there. If he hasnt played high school or college hockey, then his chances are very slim to get a chance at making a team. Case in point, in the RHI (Roller Hockey International-now defunct) Anaheim won their version of the Stanley Cup in 1993-1994 (I think). Many of the players were recruited by the San Diego Gulls in a professional ice league and it was awful, as many of them never played ice hockey before in their life. San Diego had to get rid of half of the team and start over. Hockey is not all about skills and training, but understand and acquiring a "hockey sense" (i.e. knowing your position and where others should be on the ice).|||Well usually NHL players start when they're REAL young...I mean so young they can barely walk. So I'd say most NHL players start when they're about 2...3 years old?

How old is your husband, for one thing? If you guys are a YOUNG married couple...then maybe. How old? 18, 19, 20? If any of those I would think possible.

First off does he know how to skate? If yes, he's already off to a better start. Just tell him to not get his hopes up to high, but if you never try you'll never know what you could have done.|||If the greatest hockey player to ever play, Wayne Gretzky could not play with the young guys, it's safe to say that you have to be pretty young to play pro. They are to fast and to strong for us old timers. I would say, if your over 25 play for fun. My Dad played for the Oilers and I went to school with guys that made it. They were all young and very, very strong. They still didn't last long. Hockey players are probably the best conditioned athletes. Your husband could possibly be the great exception but I would hate for him to get his hopes up. Anyway, tell him to try but to keep his eyes open! Also tell him, "keep you stick on the ice"!|||Gordie Howe played into his 50's|||Play amateur. Better chance there. For the most part, it is a young man's game.

How would you analyze data from a hockey season for a statistics project?

I've already found the average wins, losses, and OT losses. I also used a confidence interval to figure out how many games they would win in the first half of their season. But as this is a project, I need something more. What else can I do for a statistics class with the stats from one hockey season?|||I know you said from one season, but is there a way you could go back to previous seasons and test your information. For example, you have constructed a confidence interval for wins, could you look at the last three years and determine if the Confidence Interval contains the number of wins they actually had. Other possibilities would be to test wins and losses against the first goal scored, or see if there is such a thing as a win streak (is a win more likely after another win?) Hope this helps and good luck!

How important is it for the Canadian Men's Hockey team to win gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver?

I know it's always important to win gold in Olympic hockey, but it's especially important considering the Olympics are on their home ice.

What will it mean for Canadian hockey (and Canada in general) if the Canadians do end up winning the gold?

What will it mean if they don't?|||In my opinion, it is crucial. After the 2006 debacle, we need to show up big on our home ice. I've been watching these things on Sportsnet about hockey teams preparing for the Olympics, and like they have said, "Canadians will not settle for anything less than gold due to the failure in Turino(sp?), and that it's on home ice."

I will be incredibly disappointed if they don't, and I know that a tonne of other Canadians will be too.|||to fans for bragging rights i am sure it is important....in real life it is just a game

How to get into hockey and become a professional?

I am 16 right now, I played road hockey all my life, I have played with roller blades and I am really good but I have not played Ice Hockey. I want to get into it now and become a professional. What do I need to do?|||First, you need to get used to the different feel and skills on ice hockey skates.

Many of the pros (in most sports) have been playing since they were little kids. You would have a LOT of catching up to do.

If your high school does not have a hockey team, you will need to find one elsewhere. You cannot get good without a good coach. You may need to find a new high school that has a better hockey program.

You need to get into every hockey clinic and camp that you can. Again, you are behind the skill level of the people you want to compete against and need to catch up.

You will need to skate all winter and preferably in the summer. Unless you are in a hockey area where you can skate outside in the winter or get ice time for the summer, you might need to move.

The easiest way (and even that isn't easy) is to get good enough in the next couple years to get onto a good college team. Look at the schools that the pros came from to get an idea of how good you need to get into.

The alternate way is to play on club teams and then onto a minor league team.

Keep in mind that only the best high school players get to play at the college level and only a few of them become pros.

Since you have not been living and developing your skills for the last 5-10 years, it will be very difficult.|||honestly, i wouldn't even try. ALL of the pro's have been playing since they could walk, and some from before. Also, roller hockey is much different than ice hockey. I know because I have been playing hockey for about 10 years now, and i also play roller hockey. However if u were going to try, i would start playing ice hockey RIGHT NOW, plus i would do all sorts of conditioning, and training exercises to get into superb shape (maybe even get a personal trainer?). You also might want to get a personal skating coach to really improve your skating skills. Also you are going to want to get on an ice hockey team, and then maybe after you get used to it tryout for a team that you could get recognized by scouts on. Hope that helps, good luck because honestly, ur going to need it!|||The following site is very excellent for discussion hockey.

What helpful tips can anyone give me about playing pond hockey in Wisconsin during the winter?

I have lived in California my whole life and played hockey since I was seven. One of my dreams is to play pond hockey somewhere and I figure my best shot is going next winter after I graduate college. Is the ice really that much more choppy? I've played on some pretty horrible ice out here. What clothing is most comfortable out there?|||Come to Green Bay and play on the rinks at the parks. They are great. They are a little choppy but you get young kids and old guys all playing together. Most guys wear jeans and jackets. It's great. It's not a pond but the city just floods the parks and it is free. -s|||Depends on temperature and wind chill factor and whether the pond is hot mopped or not.

I typically wear a hat that will cover the ears, sweatshirt and sweatpants, shin and elbow pads. The shins help block the wind as well as needed protection. Too many whacks and strange bounces.

If its really cold, I'll wear some shorts (off road cycling) underneath my sweatpants.

After the game, switch into dry clothes. I usually try to keep a thermos with something warm to help warm up.

Now I'm really looking forward to winter so I can get pond hockey going again!!!|||make sure the ice is solid before you step on it.|||Don't eat yellow snow!|||Make sure you wear a wet suit underneath your clothes in case you fall into the water when the ice breaks.|||For starters, you don't see many cat tails and bull rushes growing out of the ice at the arena. Think of them as built it goal posts or extra defensemen.

Secondly, another thing you won't see in a California arena, frostbite. So dress warm, and try not to trip over the pressure cracks.

Remember, you're doing it for the enjoyment of the experience, not the quality of the ice.|||Your Skates tend to need sharpening allot more as the sand and grit found in natural ice will dull your skates real fast.Buy cheaper skates for pond Hockey and Keep your good Skates for indoor Hockey. Go to a place like Plat it Again Sports that specialize in selling used equipment that will save you loads of money.GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN !!!!!!!!!!|||My advice to you is to drink heavily.|||Clear a section of the pond from sticks, marsh weeds, etc. before it freezes. Try to select a section among trees as they will break the cold winter wind.

Wear under-armour or thermal underwear, gloves and hat. Wearing too much clothing and/or coat will make you sweat too much and then you will get even colder!

Avoid going onto the ice until it is completely frozen or avoid going onto the ice on warmer days as this will make it choppier.

Keep on top of shovelling off the snow so that it will be less effort.

Build a fire off to the side of the pond to be able to warm up.

Take a warm drink (hot chocolate) and cold drink for hydration.

|||Hockey in the south is a great idea. I'm all for it. The sad part is the tradition hasn't been built yet. it takes time for that to happen. What are some good off-ice exercises to do for the beginner adult hockey player?

I am 29 years old and learning to skate to eventually start to play hockey. In the meantime, I am going to the gym and trying to get into shape by increasing my endurance, flexibility, and strength. Are there any good exercises in all three of these areas that are especially helfpful for the adult beginner hockey player? My hope is to be in decent shape by the time I actually take to the ice for my first adult hockey league.|||Endurance training is great. Keep that up. Flexibility has been said to be irrelevant, but in the explosive sport of ice hockey, it is imperative. Stretch before and after skating. As far as resistance training is concerned, focus your attention on your lower body muscle groups and core exercises. Ofcourse, continue to lift upper body muscle regions in order to maintain equilibrium. Hockey is a single leg sport. The best ice hockey players in the world keep their feet moving continually. I will give you a list of resistance exercises to do, and a few examples of plyometric drills in order to increase quickness and explosiveness.

Resistance Weights:

1. Front Squat- eventually progress to the back squat

2. Clean and Pulls

3. Box Step-ups

4. Dead lifts

5. Low-Pulls

6. Push Press

7. Lunges

8. Russian Twists

9. Abdominal Crunches

10. Leg Raises

Plyometric Drills

1. Squat Jumps

2. Knees to Chest jumps

3. Lunge walks

4. Lateral Jumps from cone to cone at a distance of a few feet.

5. Lateral jumps over a hockey stick placed on the ground. go as fast as you can for 30, 45, 60 seconds.

6. Jump Rope

I have a ton of exercises. However, there is no substitute for ice skating. I suggest mastering skating first since you are new to the sport. These exercises will surely help you. Please do these safely. I assume no responsibility for injury or any personal hazard that coincides with exercise. Always warm-up before you exercise.|||Ya, the guy above me is right CARDIO is the best! It will make your ENDURANCE better, and your legs will be stronger. For flexibility i would recemend stretching everyday. Put your left leg over your right leg(while standing up) and bend down. Then switch put your right leg over your left leg.

I hope this helps!|||Cardio. Lots and lots of cardio.|||Leg press , tons of cardio , shoulders press , and tons of abs , dont forget to train your wrist|||I started playing ice hockey at the age of 60. Some of the guys and gals I played with were your age and we were all in the same boat when playing with the 18 to 25 year olds. In my opinion the best thing you can learn to do is fall down. You are going to spend lots of time upside down, but it is fun. Learn to use your stick. You can do it without actually being on the ice. Good luck and keep your head up!!!!!|||1st of all I think its cool that your 29 and wanting to learn hockey. I started when I was 5 but, I don't think learning the game has changed much in the last 25 years. The best advice I can give is by some roller blades. Some people tnk roller blading is harder then ice skating because you cant stop as fast. Also, keep that cardio going and if your local gym has a ski or crosstrainer machine (working the arms and legs same time) use that. Best of luck in learning and have fun!|||Soccer

What are more similar to roller blades, Hockey skates or figure skates?

I am planning on learning to rollerblade, I am just really curious, what are closer to rollerblades in the feel and control white skating, hockey skates or figure skates?|||All ice skates have a pronounced rocker (curve in the blade so only part of it touches the ice).

Some Inline skates can be rockered for specific uses (freestyle, figure, hockey) but most are unrockered except that a small amount of rocker will be naturally created as the front and rear wheels wear.

Hockey skates have more rocker than figure skates, for some positions the rocker is higher than others.

Figure skates have more rocker towards the front for turning than the back.

Racing skates have less rocker than either.

Ice skates also have much less grip to the side than inline skates. The hollow of the blade sharpening for hockey skates gives more side grip than figure skates.

It is hard to say which one will feel (to you) closer to inline skates. It depends which (grip or rocker) is noticed by you more. I have considered getting a pair of used racing blades to mount on an older pair of inline boots (some of the better skates use the same mounting points for the frame that ice racing blades use.|||well i am pretty pro at rollerblading but i've never iceskated.

DO NOT get roller skates. get blades

If you wanna learn how to rollerblade, just go straight to blades. don't mess around on the ice

Park basketball courts are a nice and smooth spot to rollerblade. Gym floors are excellant. obvioulsy roller ranks. but since i was 6 the best and most fun way is to get some people and play street hockey. Get some cones for goals and some sticks. When cars come just kick the cones out of the way.

Street hockey is really fun and you get good at skating fast cus you turn around a lot

Learn to use the rubber break, to crossover both directions, but most importantly, most fun, and the hardest to do, learn to spin by putting the heel of one foot backwords against the heel of the other foot. I don't know how to explain it but it stops you very quickly

How do I start learning more about hockey?

I just started watching hockey and I'm becoming a big fan. It's the first sport that's actually interests me besides wrestling, which i stopped watching. Anyways I know the basics and stuff and learned it pretty quickly but a lot there's a lot of things I don't know. I've been following the penguins just because I like them the best right now but I'm from NY. Anyone have any tips or little things I should know about the sport?|||For starters:

Don't root for the Rangers, and get any thoughts you have for Crosby out of your head, because he's not into girls.

OK now that we got that out of the way:

Welcome to hockey! It's a much better sport live, but watch as much as you can of it either on tv and online. If you're familiar with soccer, you will see some similarities as far as teamwork, how the offence and defence aligns in different formations ..|||Check and see if there are any hockey books at your local library--even if there aren't many that are specifically about the Penguins, there might be some (of course, I'm a Wings fan from metro Detroit who also likes the Habs, so it's easy enough for me to get books on either--the local team and then one of the more written-about teams because of the history). Try inter-library loan to get some if you need to, maybe. Read histories of your favorite teams, and the League as a whole, and perhaps your favored teams' rivals. Read online editorial columns about various teams to get an idea of what's being said about them, and learn to read the statistics, game summaries, etc. if you don't already know how.

There's a lot you'll learn just by being around and watching the sport longer--which teams usually have which styles of play, former players for various teams, how the sport has changed, and so on. Being around people who know hockey will help in that immensely, but some of it is best done just through watching over a number of seasons.

In short--read what you can, watch what you can, listen to what you can. There's always something more to learn.|||First off, read up on you favorite teams, go to some games, get some memorabilia and then you should be all set.

What's the difference between expensive hockey skates and cheaper ones?

First of all, I'm not American, so my English may not be perfect.

I just bought Graf hockey skates, that cost about 80 dollars.

What's the difference between expensive skates (example Nike Bauer Vapor XXXX) and cheaper skates (example Nike Bauer Vapor IX).

I noticed no other difference, than the XXXX ones were more shinier, really.|||1 protection I have taken a shot to both, the protection on a more expensive skate is much better. The support that a high end skate offers is greater also.

#2 the fit,the high end skates are"baked",this is a process whereby the skate is heated up to a specific temperature then brought to the customers foot while still hot,he then wears it for ten minutes or so in order that the boot mold to his foot. This is not the case with all high end manufacturers but in any case the materials used on a high end skate would be more conducive to comfort.

#3 weight, the new high end skate is unbelievably light, the lower end skate has come a long way but the overall workmanship, materials used, and the little extras of the high end skates are what put it above the lower.

Having said that,if you are young and still growing, you would be wise to forgo the high end skate until a later time.

#4 over all performance,I have skated on both for years and have found myself constantly repairing my cheaper skates, blades, tucks, rips in boot, etc,I'm not saying this wont happen with high end skates only in my case less frequently.

#5 money this is an issue and in most cases you get what you pay for.

p.s. You should buy the skates suited to their use,if the skates are meant for a pass time and on occasion, then the differences in the skates become moot,if on the other hand you are involved in serious competition,or use them with great frequency will the differences become apparent.|||the material used in more expensive skates can be different.

some expensive skates are much lighter; some use kevlar and other materials.

mid priced to expensive skates may also have some gel inside the interior.

the blades on mid to expensive are usually stainless steel instead of high speed steel. the more expensive ones may be titanium coated.|||The more expensive - the lighter, more reliable, and just overall perform better. But if you don't play much, it comes down to comfort more then performance. Graf makes great skates|||the vapor xxxx are a lot lighter and they are made of much better materials so that they can uphold a better skater|||price...

How long are hockey practices and games?

My boyfriend has hockey practice and said he would be at my house after and its been two and half hours. How long are hockey practices? How long are games? How often a week do people have games and practices?

Thanks !|||Pract- 1 hr to 1.5 hr

Games- 45 mn to 1hr

it depends on the team|||Games are 3x 20 min + time between the periods that could be up to 15-18 minutes. Then ofc time after the game to change gear and take a shower etc that could take up to 1h or more if they have after-game brief or something.

Practices are usually between 45min - 1hr 30min. And you need to warm up and change gear before and after practices too so it might take up to 2 and half hours easily if they have longer practice. Amount of games and practices depends on level of play but id say 4 times in a week is very minimum. Could easily be up to 10 times a week + games at higher level.

How does the mens ice hockey comp work? How many groups, who gets to play who in the semi's?

I don't follow ice hockey but want to understand what's happening in the Olympics. Who do you expect to win?

What chance are Canada?|||Ok I love ice hockey so I'll try and break this down as easy as I can. There are 12 teams that qualify for the Olympics and all together they play 18 preliminary games. Teams get 3 points for a win, 1 point for regulation tie, 2 points for overtime win, and 0 for loss. After those games they seed the teams 1-12 in which the top 4 seeds receive a first round bye. So 5 plays 12, 6 plays 11, and so on. It's single elimination after that all the way until the third place game and the two teams who play for the gold, so it's like a bracket.

Canada has a real good shot, their roster is stacked. Russia and Sweden are the other two that could take it. Hope that helps.|||top 4 teams from 3 groups go to the quarters. the teams that finished 5th to 12th play against eachother (5v12, 6v11, 7v10, 8v9) and the winner of each goes to the quarterfinals. quarterfinals is the best ranked vs the worst ranked. 2nd best vs 2nd worst. 3rd best vs 3rd worst. and 4th best vs 4th worst. Winner of best vs worst plays winner of 4th best vs 4th worst in the Semis. 2nd best vs 2nd worst and 3rd best vs 3rd worst play eachother in the Semi's. Then winners of Semi's play for Gold, and losers play for Bronze.

How do I convince my parents to billet a hockey player?

My town has a hockey team an they are always looking for people to let them stay at there house (billet them) for the hockey season. I really want one because my friend has one and she loves it. How do I convince my parents to let a mustang player (are home hockey team) live with us ?|||Give them some mature reasons of why that would be a good idea. Think about financial strain though, if you don't have much money it might be hard to afford the extra mouth. I pesonally think it's a good idea, and good practice bud! I'd do it if our town were smaller. Good luck! and puck anyone who is a douche about it :)|||Someone's desperate.|||Not in a million years honey

How do I convince my parents to billet a hockey player?

How do I convince my parents to let a mustang player (are home hockey team) live with us ? We can afford it and they keep sayin we will next. Every year they say this.

P.S. If your going to say something not helpful don't even answer.|||I'm just wondering but wouldn't the hockey player themselves have somewhere to stay? Have your parents actually think about, by telling them the offers etc|||I'm guessing Dad's not going to spring for a motel to test drive this theory first, huh?

Be careful what you wish for. House guests aren't always what you wish for.

As a parent, the more you push for it, the more reasons to think it's a bad idea.|||I told you the first time (thanks for the points by the way) you're going to end up preggo. Even the most conservative girls can't deny the irresistible scent of sweat and hockey tape in the evening.|||I can see that the answers this time aren't any different when you asked it last time. From your response to the last answers I can see the truth.

Your parents know you better than you think they do. And I think that we do as well.|||You're still desperate.

Hockey???!?

Alright I got something to tell you guys. When I was a baby my mom dropped me on the floor and I became dumb. when i was 6 i tripped over a cordless phone. when i was 12 i used to walk in front of the t.v. and my mom used to miss 3 t.v. shows because of my weight. and when i was 14 I saw Byran Mcabe on T.v. making the biggest mistake of his life by shooting on his own net against Buffalo. So I finally figured out that Im not the biggest Idoit. So I seeked help from one of my best friends and he told me to go to The Toronto Maple Leafs for help, They couldnt help me because they wanted to help Mats Sundin choose retheir or not to go to Montreal. So than I turned to the Anaheim Ducks for help....BOOM!|||wow umm. Ive never heard anything like this. Umm..you must really like the Anaheim Ducks, I do too but I didnt go to Chris Pronger for my problems, I can tell you that. As wel for the BOOM! part, I guess you were mocking the original?|||Wow...I don't know if you are the biggest genius or moron with all these stories...But I have to admit, the Leaf-bashing parts keep me reading!|||Thank you for the very enlightening story.

Drop the puck ALREADY!|||2pts|||that uhh that was nice and u have problems and I f im wrong about that then i do|||He shoots........and it's off the post...........it was that close to being entertaining.|||I hated Mccabe to the pointed i wanted him to get benched or sent to the AHL next season, but then i looked at his passed stats not to say this years stats were too bad either..

in 03/04 he had 16g 37a in 56 pts in 75 games (plus22) not too bad.. only one of the top guys in points in the league...

in 05/06 he had 68 points in 73 games A POINT A GAME how often does a Dman do that? (was a -1 but on the first line with just sundin thats not too bad) the in 06/07 he had 57pts in 82 games (plus3) and this past year he his worse year but still almost a point every 2 games and only a minus 2 on that brutal leafs team.

so MORON go do you homework then bash Mccabe all you remember is the mistakes he made becuase they are very memroble but overall Mccabe has been a good player and with this new salary age his salary aint too bad. i couldnt handel him but when i looked at the numbers this guy is a top defencemen and that goal against buffalo Raycrap blew all by himself we shouldnt even of been in OT he got scored on like 3 times in the last 5 min.

Hockey????

Ive played (field) hockey for 5 years and have always used TK's

im getting another one though (i smashed mine lol) and was just wondering if anyone could recommend any better brands

(in ireland btw, if that matters!)

Also, i dont like Grays at all, they seem low of quality to me..and they're usually ugly!!|||My son has played for 8 years and has tried most of the well known makes, but he loves his Zoppo stick that he has now, and it has lasted well.

I'd stick with the TK's even though I am in the US.|||I hated hockey at school, always getting bashed on the ankles. Hockey????????

how do hockey coaches make their players have a active physical routine and positive personnal choices|||I am a coach for a Tier I travel team and speaking from personal experience as a player and a coach...coaches cannot make the players do anything off the ice. Our job as coaches is to be a role model, we lead by example and we show how our positive actions yield positive results. Kids at any age, especially athletes deal with constant cause and effect so if you follow that logic then the players will see how practicing like you play will make them more effective in games...working out on your free time makes you more effective in practice thus making you more effective in games. And so on and so forth...it's tricky and it's different with every player but cause and effect is huge. I also ALWAYS follow through on a punishment...make it a non-negotiable. Hope this helps.|||Haha, how about making them bag skate until they puke? Or curfew on road trips so that they don't get drunk or in fights?|||I dont' think you have to make any professional player do any of those things. The ones who don't do it are the ones who loses a million-dollar job.|||Between games and practices their 'down' time is usually structured with a good amount of regimentation and discipline. LOL

It's all about answering the bell, actually. If a player does his job at the rink, not too many questions are asked about what, or who, he filled his time in with the night before.

Conversely, if a guy doesn't pull his weight, he ends up in the 'A' or worse, on waivers. Not much room for laziness or complacency in such an intense environment ... unless your name starts with a 'Y' and ends in an 'ashin'.|||Yeah, with the disciplinary system these days for sports athletes, and with controversies that have been going on lately such as dogfighting or steroids, its pretty much left to the players to behave and they want to stay in physical shape or else they will suffer at games or practices lol|||Simple get them some playing time.|||At this level there is no room for Bull %*@#@*%. You eather play by the rules, or you go to work at Micky D'z .|||I AM A COLLEGE HOCKEY PLAYER, AND ASPIRE TO MAKE A CAREER OUT OF HOCKEY, EITHER AS PLAYER OR COACH. THOUGH THERE ARE MANY, MY BEST QUESTION TO THIS ANSWER IS THIS: CHOOSE A GOOD CAPTAIN. PLAYERS TEND TO DRIFT FROM THEIR COACHES INFLUENCE WHEN OFF THE ICE. A GOOD CAPTAIN IS NOT ONLY ONE THAT THE PLAYERS RESPECT, BUT HE IS ALSO INVOLVED IN THEIR SOCIAL LIVES, AND IF YOUR CAPTAIN IS A GOOD LEADER AND HAS THE DISCIPLINE TO WORK ON HIS OWN, HE IS YOUR BEST SHOT AT GETTING THE OTHER PLAYERS DO POSITIVE THINGS AS WELL.

Hockey! :)?

i know nothing about hockey...but me and some of my girls have been watching a few games. so what i was wondring is when the new season starts. they are in the playoffs right now, right? anyways if anyone has the time or a website or something that could explain all this to us that would be great. thanks!|||The regular season starts in early October and ends in early April. The post season is a 16 team tournament divided into the Eastern Conference and Western Conference. In the playoffs, an Eastern team doesn't meet a Western team until the very last round.

The source link will take you to nhl.com's rules page, but here's a general overview:

An NHL game is played with five skaters on each team (a center, left wing, right wing, and two defensemen) and a goalie. The goalie may be pulled of the ice at any time for an extra attacker (skater). During a delayed penalty, the team that did not commit the penalty will pull their goalie because play will stop one the other team touches the puck.

A penalty is delayed if the team that commited the penalty does not have possesion of the puck. This is to allow the team that suffered from the penalty to continue their play. As stated, the team with the puck during a delayed penalty will pull their goalie for an extra attacker since there is virtually no chance that they will be scored on. A penalty is cancelled if that team scores before the penalty commiting team touches the puck.

The main penalties are:

Icing: not really a penalty, per se, but this is when the puck is shot/passed across the red center line and then across the goal line without anyone touching it.

High-sticking: bringing the stick above the shoulders of another player. If a high stick draws blood from a player, a double minor (4 minute penalty) is assesed.

Hooking: using the stick blade as a hook to impede the progess of a player.

Tripping: using the stick to cause a player to fall to the ice.

Interference: impeding the progress of a player that does not have the puck.

That's basic stuff. Check the rules page as that will have diagrams and pictures and stuff. Welcome to hockey, bring friends.|||Go to NHL.com or google hockey rules that will help you alot too.

|||nhl.com|||im to lazyy.. just go to nhl.com|||Hockey is any of a family of sports in which two teams compete by trying to maneuver a ball, or a hard, round disc called a puck, into the opponent's net or goal, using a hockey stick. The dominant version of hockey in a particular region tends to be known simply as hockey, other forms being more fully qualified.

Field hockey is played on gravel, natural grass, sand-based or water-based artificial turfs, with a small, hard ball. The game is popular among both males and females in many countries of the world, particularly countries in Europe, India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and South Asia. In the United States and Canada it is played predominantly by women.

Ice hockey is played on a large flat area of ice, using a three inch (76.2 mm) diameter vulcanized rubber disc called a puck. In some situations, the puck is frozen prior to the start of a game to limit bouncing. The game is contested between two teams of skaters, each consisting of a goaltender, two defense players and three forwards, two of which are called wingers and one is called a center. In NHL rules, the periods are 20 minutes long, counting downwards. In the IIHF the clock counts upwards. There are three periods. The game is played all over North America, Europe and in many other countries around the world to varying extent.|||The season starts in October and they usually end like mid-June. What's that most favorited hockey team in California?|||The San Jose Sharks. The Anaheim Ducks have a lot of fans too, but San Jose has more, at least, right now they do.|||I prefer the Sharks.|||The three teams in California are

San Jose Sharks

Anaheim Ducks

Los Angeles Kings

The most 'favorited' team- do you mean by the fans, or which team is the favorite to win the Stanley Cup?

I think the Sharks have more fans|||Is "favorited" even a word?|||Probably the Ducks because of the Cup last season:)|||The team with the best fans in the USA (not including the Wild)|||I'm a Ducks fan.|||Probably the Quackers because of last year's Cup.

According to Merriam- Webster online dictionary, "favorited" is NOT a word. You probably meant "most favored"|||thats tough for me to answer because i like players from each team not really a whole team and depending on my mood

right now i like the Sharks i guess because the have one of my favorite players in the league ----- Brian Campbell|||i think that question can only be answered when they are finishing last in the conference, since LA has some good diehard fans, they are in last but the ducks have never really had that big of an attendence record before this year, and the sharks attendance keeps on getting bigger and bigger but their team gets better and better...|||The San Jose Sharks. If you ever go to a game they're just insane. The crowd is awesome.

The Ducks had some bandwagoners because of last years cup win, but the Sharks have some pretty die-hard fans.

When you go to Sharks games outside of CA it's amazing how many San Jose fans are in the crowd. I was at the Blackhawks/Sharks game here in Chicago.... and I definitely wasn't the only one rocking the teal.|||San hose, anaheim, and carolina.|||Depends on where you ask the question. All I know is that the Kings are the least FAVORED team.|||Of the California teams San Jose number one closely followed by anaheim and kings. Hockey???????????

In Hockey what keeps the ice from melting? How does it stay frozen for 3 hole hours?|||Indoor ice making is a real art and Canadians (which I am proud to be!) are recognized as among the best in the world. The building itself (or arena) does not have to be below freezing, but the underlying concrete floor does. And through the concrete floor runs a network of pipes that have a brine solution pumped through them to keep the cement below freezing. On top of the floor water is flooded. It freezes and more water is flooded on to it. Ideally the ice thickness should remain fairly constant because thicker and thinner ice have different properties. Thick ice is softer because it is a bit warmer. In the professional league (NHL) the ideal thickness, I believe, is between 3 and 6 centimetres, or 1 to 2 inches. Zambonis are specially designed ice clearing and flooding machines that scrape a very thin layer of slush and snow off the ice and then replacing it with a thin coating of water that freezes within seconds of being applied. This process allows the surface, and immediate area inside the playing rink, to remain below freezing, while the bleacher area can be above freezing. That's why you see the hockey players have steam rising from their sweaty bodies while the fans in Row 25 are in t-shirts. Great question about the best team sport in the northern hemisphere!|||Whole.

And they make it cold in there!|||it's a cold blooded sport.|||i think there might be something like a freezer under it.|||The ice doesn't melt for the same reason that you have to wear think clothes and gloves. They keep it cold inside of the rink your pretty much skating inside of a freezer.|||The same technology that keeps your freezer cold - but on a larger scale.|||Simple: there is a refrigeration system below the ice. Pretty much the same thing that keeps things frozen in your freezer, only bigger!|||It's artificial...................that's how!|||This is all you need to know about rinks...

Hockey..............?

when you play hockey at a rink, and you either take a really hard slapshot and it breaks the glass, or you hit someone really hard and it breaks the glass, do you actually pay for a new glass panel? or is it just considered an accident that happens in the game every so often?|||The rink will pay for it always UNLESS you use your stick and slam it along the glass and or butt end it. then you will definitely get fined!|||If it occurs during a game, then you are fine, and the league should take care of it, but if it is at practice, or at public ice times, or something like that, you may have to help out in paying for a new pane of glass.

In the NHL, they cover everything, but it isn't like the glass is all that expensive for them, they have millions of dollars.|||Accident and you should never have to pay.|||No, you don't have to pay. An occasional glass panel is figured into the routine maintenance budget of any rink. A player who is breaking glass with his shots or checking guys through the glass is most likely playing at a level of hockey where someone else pays the bills in any case.|||if your shot is hard enough to break the glass, the rink owners will be begging to buy you lunch.|||rink pays unless it wasn't a game|||If you're not playing in the NHL or close to it, you're probanly not shooting or hitting hard enough to worry about it. Unless the glass is defective, then you don't have to worry about it.

Rockstar, slapshots that break glass at public skating? Remind me never to skate in your neighbourhood rink.|||We rent the ice every Friday night at a local rink, and I can remember a broken pane one night. I can't recall exactly what caused it, but the rink took care of it.

Hockey????

why does no one care about hockey? like no one in my grade likes hockey i dont get it|||i LOVE HOCKEY!

americans are too into the other major sports (baseball, basketball and football) because they are exposed to the game at a young age growing up.

i have taken several non-hockey liking friends to live NHL games and they all come back with a love of the game and most are starting to follow it on their own.

NHL in person %26gt; NHL on tv

TV does not do hockey justice|||People don't like it because there fat lazy americans. All they want to do is watch baseball and play baseball, the sport that fat people CAN play because theres about as much running in baseball as there is in swimming.

I love hockey, but i agree, i have about 3 friends that like it, but i made some of my friends liking it by showing them a game, not a regular season NHL game, but a playoff game, the real deal in hockey. Those guys are out there giving it there all, and coming in with some huge hits, try that. Next season when the playoffs are on take 2 or 3 of your friends that don't like hockey, and have them watch a playoff game at your house or something. Then they'll see that Hockey is the greatest sport.|||it's because it's not easy to go out and play with your friends. if there were as many hockey rinks in a city as there are basketball courts, i bet it would be different. since i live in Texas, weather doesn't really allow for the best conditions so we played street hockey. we got one rink in the city next to me and we can't even play hockey until league play becasue it;s used for skating the rest of the time.|||Same...I live in a small town in NJ and everyone either: doesn't care about hockey, makes fun of hockey, or likes the Rangers.

Kurfadle you're so right. Everyone in my school's on crack, but we're supposed to be a "wealthy town with a good school system". But half the kids are either super smart or on drugs.|||hockey is by far the best sport, it is the fastest sport (except racing but that isnt a sport) and is totally unique. some skaters can go an excess of 25-30 mph with a puck trying to avoid other skaters with sticks and the ability to just line you up and trash you. where can you find a bigger rush?|||LIke Kurfadle said it depends on where you live! In some places Hockey is loved by everyone ex. Canada but in other places hockey isn't popular ex. Southern States

But you could enjoy hockey from where ever you are. You could always try making your friendds watch hockey. I'm pretty sure after watching the game they'll like it!|||It really depends on where you're from. Because i live in a city in North Carolina where hockey is not that popular. People in my school are obsessed with basketball. Where me i'm the only one in my grade who loves hockey.|||We Live In America Dude. America Loves Their Baseball and Basketball.

I don't know what you're talking about...|||right on Kurfadle....thank god there are some sane Devils fans out there.....all depends on the market and the proximatey to other sports franchises|||its all about where you live

in ct/ny/nj/ma about half the schools are on drugs and like the rangers|||you should drop out of that school, and go to one where people care about hockey. youre getting cheated in life.|||I love hockey and no one in my school likes hockey.|||Do you live in a Black neighborhood?

There is nothing like going to an NHL game

Hockey????

I am 14 and in 8th grade and the tallest kid in my grade is 5'9 but there are people close in height. But when I play hockey there are tons of kids who are like 6'3 and most of the are like 5'10. Is it just that tall kids play hockey because it doesn't seem like that for other sports.|||No it's because there's a misguided conception that because hockey is a bit of a rough sport then you must be big and strong to play. Therefore a lot of smaller kids don't play (even though many may like to but their mommies won't let them 'cause they may get hurt).

This idea became even more misguided when the NEW NHL arrived because they've lowered the need for brute strength and increased the need for speed. Which is where a lot of smaller guys excel.

Also you have to consider the level of hockey you may be playing. Non-contact "Rec" or "House" Leagues have kids of all sizes. When you get into the higher end "Rep" teams then you find that the kids (generally) will be a bit bigger and stronger. This would apply to any physical sport though not just hockey.|||Height dosen't matter. But if you had a choice to be 6'3 in the NHL or 5'9 what would you choose?

|||no...tall kids don't play hockey..it depends where your from/ and what league you play in|||The shortest NHLer was 5 ft 3 inches. Currently, the tallest is 6 ft 9 inches. If you love playing hockey just go for it|||height isnt a big deal at your age esp. since you are starting late so it wont be too serrious. Size is an advantage in hockey because of the physical aspect for sure but if you are quick on skates, small guys can do well too|||it's not how tall you are it's how good you are so stop worrying and have fun with hockey it is really fun i am on an all girls league|||Where do these tall kids go to school. But at 13-14 you might still have growth spurt and could end up at 6'-3"

The answer is no tall kids play basketball.|||eat wheaties.... lift weights..

when a coach looks at a player he looks for speed, and skills and puck controll. one of the last things he looks at is size, and when he looks at size, he looks at mass, muscle.. not height.. many of the tall kids are clummies on skates.|||Hey, nice question... i play hockey year-round. i am about 5'5 and thats an average hieght for a kid my age. and if you're strong you can "send people a message" by checking them. Put your shoulder into them. I've seen kids about 4'7 that play at the Peewee 'A' Level.

How do you start up an ice hockey league?

I'm moving to an area with arenas, but no female adult hockey teams. What all would be involved in getting a league started? (There's about 4 towns nearby that are good potential to start up a small league).|||beyond starting a small game i have no idea|||Start with a group renting ice for pick up. Put up signs in groceries and arenas looking for prospects. It takes about 20 committed people to start a regular pick up game. When you get a committed group of regulars it might be time to look at expanding into a full league.

For a league you will need a convenor and officials. Even a simple four team league requires an arbiter to handle disputes and mediate justice and perceived improprieties.

Good Luck. When these ventures succeed they are worth the effort.|||Put up flyers at your local arenas and places of business. Put ads in newspaper and on internet around the area. Facebook would be a great idea to start a website for your league. Go to open hockey at your rink and start talking to people. Teams really only have to be 7-12 players. When you get enough players, talk to your rink manager and schedule some ice. Later ice time is usually cheaper. Refs are nice to have but not essential. Get a trophy.

Good luck!

What hockey card brand is worth the most?

I am an avid hockey card collector and I am always wondering what cards to buy? I realise pro set and score are worthless. I know the main sets you can buy for modern day cards are opeechee and upper deck. So what is worth more? And What is the most valuable upper deck series?|||Since you're aware that those early '90s cards are junk, do what the rest of us who were getting into the hobby at the time and fell for it, but DIDN'T flee the hobby, never to come back, have done, and pursue the older cards. Even the more expensive winners will be cheaper than they are now.

I haven't bought a single new hockey card since 1995. But I've kept right on collecting. I have every Topps and OPC set from the last year that an unopened box is still worth any real money, 1988-89, all the way back to 1970-71, and that's not the really important part of my collection. I have rookie cards of Howie Morenz (1924-25), who was the Babe Ruth of hockey, and sadly, hardly anyone under the age of 25 knows who he was, plus Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull and Bobby Orr (including the 'test' rookie, the Holy Grail of post-WWII hockey cards). Plus several of the '50s Parkie sets and Topps sets. They weren't cheap when I started tracking them down in the mid-'90s, but they look cheap compared to what they go for today.

And to think I could have spent that money instead on every new thing that came out the last fifteen years. Oh, I'd have a few good things, a nice Crosby rookie and maybe a few of the better jersey/uniform/ autograph cards. But I'd have a ton of worthless crap along with them.

How do you get a more powerful drive in field hockey?

Hi! I play field hockey and I'm a link. Today in practice, we practiced drives and I was the only one who couldn't score! I was so embarrassed! All field hockey tips are welcome, but please help me with driving the ball farther, faster, and harder!|||Make sure you swing through quickly and try moving your hand down the stick a little for a faster swing. But you might want to try looking up wow to do a backwards drive i can't really explain to you how to do it but if you look it up and learn it it's a really powerful shot. I know that this can feel a little awkward, especially when you have to smack the ball with a position like that, but if you really try, then you can probably get it. :) Also note that sometimes you don't have to hit the ball as hard as you can: simple push passes can also do the same thing. ^^|||my tips to you are when you swing make sure your wrists flick so you get more power and distance and you want all your weight on your back foot until you swing, then transfer all your weight to your front for more power speed and length. hope it helped|||sugar helps me

How can I get started playing ice hockey?

I'm a 14 year old girl and a HUGE hockey fan. I've always been interested in playing, but I never really knew how to get started. I can skate pretty decently and I've been working on my stick handling and shooting on a pond behind my house. I don't have any equipment yet and don't know how to find teams or something like a camp to learn how to play at in Pittsburgh.

If anyone can offer any help, it'd be very appreciated.

Thanks!|||Best if you contact rinks in your area. Might wanna work on your skating first though, it will make learning the game a lot easier - not to mention more fun.

What is with all the ridiculous questions in the Hockey section?

For every one hockey question, there has to be at least a dozen useless question that have nothing to do with hockey. Doesn't Y/A monitor this stuff?|||I can see what you mean about useless non hockey related questions being in the hockey section. I came across five and climbing, of them in the past few minutes. What the heck do these questions have to do with hockey? If they are monitoring this stuff they aren't doing a very good job of it. How good at skating do you need to be to play ice hockey?

I'm a 15 year old girl and I started ice skating lessons late last year and now can skate forwards relatively fast (on figure skates) and backwards very slowly and can sort of do cross-overs. I want to start ice hockey lessons in 2 months or so, so I can play next year, will I be good enough? If not how good do I need to be? I also play normal hockey (field hockey?) are the skills used similar?|||House League/Local League:

FORWARD:

- Skate Forward better than Backwards.

- Be able to raise the puck at least 6 inches.

- Stick-handle fairly well.

- Push the puck while skating.

- No need to worry about body-contact, was removed on for these leagues.

- Crossovers (Ex. Lift leg over planted leg to turn quickly)

DEFENSE:

- Backwards Skating is a must.

- Able to raise the puck 6 inches from the blue line or top of the circles.

- Good back checker (skating back to your end to prevent a scoring opportunity)

Representative League:

FORWARD:

- Skate forward faster than 20/25km/hr.

- Be able to shoot from any point in the oppositions end.

- Take physical contact.

- Good back checking.

- Good stick handling.

- Need to have wrist shot, snap shot, back hand, and slap shot down to a fine art.

- Need to be fit throughout the season.

- Crossovers need to be good both ways (Left/Right)

DEFENSE:

- Backwards skating needs to be almost as good as forward skating.

- Slap shot is needed: Must be able to hit the net at any point in the oppositions end.

- Take physical contact.

- Crossover need to be good both ways (Left/Right) backwards and forwards.

- Need to keep head up at all times.

- Back checking quickly and efficiently

- Passing must be good.|||I would keep practicing. Get hockey skates. They feel different. Strengthen your ankles. Skating is a must for hockey.. duh. You don't want to be skating like you do now. You want to be good and strong at all skills on your skates. Because playing hockey... you will be skating, passing, shooting, getting passes, watching/ starting plays. It isn't the easiest thing to do. The last thing you want to be doing is tripping over your skates. Ice hockey is faster than your "normal" hockey. *Sorry about this next comment*--%26gt; I can't believe you called field hockey NORMAL hockey. That is just plain offensive.

Good Luck! You will need it.|||Depends on the level you're trying to get to. Backwards skating isn't as important for a

Is it too late for me to start playing hockey?

I'm 18 years old. I'm a big hockey fan and I know all the rules to hockey. I'm a pretty good skater. I'm just looking for any advice anyone has for me ohow to get started playing.|||A good friend of mine started playing hockey around age 20, and has been active on a local team. Check out your local ice rinks to see if they have any lessons, and if they have any teams for beginner adults.|||try stopping by the closet ice rink to see if they have programs for your age grp.|||I'd say find out if there are any local leagues and go try out. Go down to your local rink and ask to speak to the coaches and/or trainers..even the other players. Good luck too!|||its neverrr too late. just get info on joining amature hockey leagues and work your way up. a lot of times hockey starts in like nov or dec, but sometimes places have summer hockey so you should really start checking it out soon.

you just really need to find out the details around where you live.|||you couldnt be to old. i no people who started playing in their 30s and are still playing. i say go for it!|||I didn't start playing hockey until I was around 20 or 21. I didn't learn to skate until 19. I'm now 30 and while I'm not the best skater, I still usually lead whatever team I'm on in scoring.

Find a local rink and join a house team. Or if you don't think you are ready to jump right out into a game, some rinks have weekly hockey clinics to learn the game. If you can already skate well, that's a huge part of starting to play hockey. I started playing hockey about a year or two after learning how to skate. And I didn't skate a lot in that time either.|||No. There are plenty of adults who start playing each year. I started playing when I was 15. I started out somewhat poorly, but I quickly got on track. I've had a ton of fun, and you shouldn't miss out. Since you already can skate, you are already ahead of the pack. Look around at your local rinks and see what programs they have (like summer classes/camps) for beginning players.

Since you already love hockey, it shouldn't be too hard to start. Go to your rink's shop or someplace with a good selection of gear. Get fully outfitted.

I'm guessing you already have some basics down, so here is something that would suit you well:

Find a local rink that offers stick-and-shoot sessions. These are pretty much open skating sessions, but they put out goals and pucks and you can practice shooting, passing, stickhandling, etc.

Since you haven't played before but you can skate and know what you're doing, this is a good way to get familiar with the stick and puck on ice. There is zero pressure, and you don't have to keep up with anyone.

Look around the web for tips. things like shifting your weight when shooting, and stuff like that.

http://www.hockeyplayertips.com is a good website by an amateur player...you can find good tips there (also http://hockeyplayertips.blogspot.com )

Also, you can find great off-ice drills here:

http://www.usahockey.com/Template_Usahoc鈥?/a>

Formalized instruction is good. There are some fundamentals that aren't readily apparent from watching on TV, but are really helpful. (Like what I said in the 1st paragraph.)

From what you said, you should be able to join an adult league/club team and start playing games this upcoming season. (Lots of rinks have 2 or 3 adult divisions, so you can play at your beginning level without having to waste time learning to skate and the rules of hockey.)

You will be able to get into the swing of things quickly.

I don't know you, so you should use your own judgment about what you want to do. These are some good things I found.

It might actually be easier for you to start now, when you are 18, than it may have been when you were, say...16. There are plenty of Adult Learn-to-play programs (at different levels), but not so many beginner things for teenage kids.

Welcome to the joy of playing hockey.

Have a great time.

How would you attract a professional hockey team to Indianapolis?

And by professional, I don't necessarily mean the NHL. Anyone familiar with hockey in Indy knows that we have had several minor league teams over the years, and currently have an amateur junior league team. I'm in favor of getting a pro minor league team back again. How would you make that happen?|||Years ago my grandfather used to own the Checkers and the Racers. He also had the Owls over in Columbus, and the Pittsburgh Penguins for awhile in the late 70's. He never did it for the money. Look at the team we had to field in the NFL to sell out games. Indy is a long way away from supporting Hockey at a profitable level. We are the biggest fair weather fans in the nation. If a local resident loves the game, and has the money to burn. Thats our only chance.|||Coach Scott can be my coach any day. I will skate through a brick wall for beer and sluts.|||I would never have said that Columbus, Ohio would have a pro team before Indianapolis. How long are hockey practices and games?

My boyfriend has hockey practice and said he would be at my house after and its been two and half hours. How long are hockey practices? How long are games? How often a week do people have games and practices?

Thanks !|||Practices depend on the coach. The practice will last as long as the coach wants them there.

Games take about 2 hours, give or take a bit.|||Games are 3x 20 min + time between the periods that could be up to 15-18 minutes.

Amount of games and practices depends on level of play but id say 4 times in a week is pretty much the minimum. Could easily be up to 10 times a week + games at higher level.|||It depends, somedays I have 2 hours pratice, somedays 4 hours -_-, somedays 1 hour, get the point? %26amp; games are around 2 hours.|||30 min. to get dressed. 1:30 hours of actually playing. 15 min. to get undressed. What are some ways i can become a better hockey player?

I'm a decent hockey player at best. I'm probably the worst player on my varsity hockey team. I think my hugest problem is that i'm slow, so can anyone throw out some ideas of how to become a quicker, faster skater? Any other ideas on increasing my skill levels would help also.|||Hockey, hockey, hockey. I am a hockey player too and I have been playing since I was 12, I am 18 now and I am probably one of the worst on the team. I feel I can never catch up. So.. I went to my coaches and approached them and they gave me some pointer. They told me to take longer strides, push back further with my skates, quick steps are only useful for the beginning of your take off. You need to push as hard as you can when taking these long strides, have your skates on the ice as long as you can before you take another. It takes time, but it will help you out. Don't worry, it sounds like you are already on the right track by asking for help. Another thing you can do is to talk to your own coach about it, he wants his or her players to do well, so chances are he or she will jump at the chance to give you some pointers. Good luck.|||well the chick above me is at times correct ok you want to really be fast then this is what you need to do first you need to work out off the ice like alot of sprints and alot of running also for quicker feet use a ladder if you dont know what that is ask your coach. When on the ice try to skate as hard as you can i know it can be hard a times but if you challenge yourself you will see improvements. Remember off ice is a very important factor in your overall performance.

p.s im a semi pro hockey player I know what im talking about|||Sprints...jumps....Do jumps one footed up stairs one at a time then move up to two then three....Speed = explosion. when you weight train explode going up on squats or presses.
