How do I start learning more about hockey?

I just started watching hockey and I'm becoming a big fan. It's the first sport that's actually interests me besides wrestling, which i stopped watching. Anyways I know the basics and stuff and learned it pretty quickly but a lot there's a lot of things I don't know. I've been following the penguins just because I like them the best right now but I'm from NY. Anyone have any tips or little things I should know about the sport?|||For starters:

Don't root for the Rangers, and get any thoughts you have for Crosby out of your head, because he's not into girls.

OK now that we got that out of the way:

Welcome to hockey! It's a much better sport live, but watch as much as you can of it either on tv and online. If you're familiar with soccer, you will see some similarities as far as teamwork, how the offence and defence aligns in different formations ..|||Check and see if there are any hockey books at your local library--even if there aren't many that are specifically about the Penguins, there might be some (of course, I'm a Wings fan from metro Detroit who also likes the Habs, so it's easy enough for me to get books on either--the local team and then one of the more written-about teams because of the history). Try inter-library loan to get some if you need to, maybe. Read histories of your favorite teams, and the League as a whole, and perhaps your favored teams' rivals. Read online editorial columns about various teams to get an idea of what's being said about them, and learn to read the statistics, game summaries, etc. if you don't already know how.

There's a lot you'll learn just by being around and watching the sport longer--which teams usually have which styles of play, former players for various teams, how the sport has changed, and so on. Being around people who know hockey will help in that immensely, but some of it is best done just through watching over a number of seasons.

In short--read what you can, watch what you can, listen to what you can. There's always something more to learn.|||First off, read up on you favorite teams, go to some games, get some memorabilia and then you should be all set.
