Hockey????????

how do hockey coaches make their players have a active physical routine and positive personnal choices|||I am a coach for a Tier I travel team and speaking from personal experience as a player and a coach...coaches cannot make the players do anything off the ice. Our job as coaches is to be a role model, we lead by example and we show how our positive actions yield positive results. Kids at any age, especially athletes deal with constant cause and effect so if you follow that logic then the players will see how practicing like you play will make them more effective in games...working out on your free time makes you more effective in practice thus making you more effective in games. And so on and so forth...it's tricky and it's different with every player but cause and effect is huge. I also ALWAYS follow through on a punishment...make it a non-negotiable. Hope this helps.|||Haha, how about making them bag skate until they puke? Or curfew on road trips so that they don't get drunk or in fights?|||I dont' think you have to make any professional player do any of those things. The ones who don't do it are the ones who loses a million-dollar job.|||Between games and practices their 'down' time is usually structured with a good amount of regimentation and discipline. LOL

It's all about answering the bell, actually. If a player does his job at the rink, not too many questions are asked about what, or who, he filled his time in with the night before.

Conversely, if a guy doesn't pull his weight, he ends up in the 'A' or worse, on waivers. Not much room for laziness or complacency in such an intense environment ... unless your name starts with a 'Y' and ends in an 'ashin'.|||Yeah, with the disciplinary system these days for sports athletes, and with controversies that have been going on lately such as dogfighting or steroids, its pretty much left to the players to behave and they want to stay in physical shape or else they will suffer at games or practices lol|||Simple get them some playing time.|||At this level there is no room for Bull %*@#@*%. You eather play by the rules, or you go to work at Micky D'z .|||I AM A COLLEGE HOCKEY PLAYER, AND ASPIRE TO MAKE A CAREER OUT OF HOCKEY, EITHER AS PLAYER OR COACH. THOUGH THERE ARE MANY, MY BEST QUESTION TO THIS ANSWER IS THIS: CHOOSE A GOOD CAPTAIN. PLAYERS TEND TO DRIFT FROM THEIR COACHES INFLUENCE WHEN OFF THE ICE. A GOOD CAPTAIN IS NOT ONLY ONE THAT THE PLAYERS RESPECT, BUT HE IS ALSO INVOLVED IN THEIR SOCIAL LIVES, AND IF YOUR CAPTAIN IS A GOOD LEADER AND HAS THE DISCIPLINE TO WORK ON HIS OWN, HE IS YOUR BEST SHOT AT GETTING THE OTHER PLAYERS DO POSITIVE THINGS AS WELL.
